They say, too much of a good thing can be bad. Just like what happened to this 55-year-old man from China named Mr Ho who ended up in an emergency operation. Mr Ho experienced intense pain in his stomach, so he decided to go to the Dongyang People’s Hospital. A CT Scan was made on him, and it showed that his left kidney was full of stones.

Dr Wei, the attending surgeon, was so surprised on the number of kidney stones present on Mr Ho’s body. Anytime soon, if he will not undergo surgery, his kidney will fail.

“I have never seen so many stones before. The operation took less than two hours of which 45 minutes was used to remove the stones.”
“At the end of the operation I realised my arms and legs were numb. The plate used to collect the stones had at least 420 of them of varying sizes and coloured green and yellow.”
“These didn’t include the tiny rice sized stones that were taken out using specialist suction equipment and these numbered over 100.”

Mr Ho was found out to have a habit of excessive eating of tofu, especially the gypsum tofu. Since bean-based products like tofu which is made from soybean have a high level of calcium. When calcium is too much, it will build in the kidney, and if there is insufficient water intake, that will turn into kidney stones.
